Throwback Thursday - sharing an old layout "Venice 2010"

Today, I'm sharing a layout from a trip to Venice that I took in 2010. I'm honestly not sure exactly when I made this layout, but I feel pretty sure it was in either 2010 or 2011. Take a walk with me down memory lane. :)

Many of my layouts during this time were 2 page spreads, something I rarely do these days. I also generally started with cardstock and then layered patterned paper over it. The reason for this is simple; most patterned paper of the time was very thin, so it needed a layer of cardstock to give it some much needed body and to prevent wrinkling.

On this layout, I used one of the My Mind's Eye shaped titles - hmm, that makes me think I might've made this page later than I thought. I'm just not sure. I also use strong colors of black, red, and cream because it works well with the title and with what I'm wearing.

I love a bold graphic print, so I did use one here in fairly small doses. I also really like mixing a dot or a stripe with a floral like I did on this page.  Those shaped pages with lines for handwriting are perfect when you have a really long story to tell like I did here.

Here's a closer look at the journaling for those of y'all who like to read that. I also like that this shows a closeup of the 3D layered stickers I used for embellishments; I don't know if these were the Jolee's brand or not, but it's certainly something like that. They make me happy whether they're the current "in" thing or not.

Here's a closer look at a couple of the photos on the layout. Notice that I used some printed tape to divide different papers on the page.

I managed to fit a lot of photos on this spread; that definitely makes me happy.

And here's a final look at the finished layout. It may be a bit dated in terms of the bold, graphic, floral pattern and the layered sticker embellishments, but I think I love this layout more now than I probably did when I first made it. This look at my first trip to Venice makes me especially happy because the story is so detailed. Yeah, I'll give myself a pat on the back for this one!

How do you feel about scrapbooking your travel photos? Is it something you enjoy or something you dread? Do you scrapbook trips right away, or do you just work on them as you get around to them? What's your biggest challenge when it comes to scrapbooking the trips you take? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

  1. I get the supplies to scrapbook them and then they set untouched for years. Don't know why. Maybe I'll make it a goal after working on Christmas layouts (another area I never seem to touch).

  2. I find I scrapbook trips more promptly if I have a game plan and supplies ready to go. I made an 8 x 8 album about a trip to Washington DC and it came together like "buttah" because I'd decided to do all my journaling on printed out Ali Edwards journaling cards, to print some 8 x 8 pictures, and to limit my papers to a line from My Minds Eye called Lush: classic patterns which were a single color over a cream background. It's still one of my favorite projects. I find it challenging to scrap trips if a long period of time has gone by, especially if I didn't do any journaling at the time.

  3. Since becoming an empty-nester my travels have become more of a focus for me to document. I generally do a page or two in our regular album and then put the rest of the photos in some type of travel album. This has varied for me and I still haven't quite decided if I like having individual albums for each journey or just adding to a larger album with 'chapters' for each vacation. The best part is that it doesn't really matter as long as I love it and document the memories. After the "urge to purge" episode of SG I gutted my studio and started over. As I went through things I found several pages I had created for a specific vacation and put notes on the pages, but had not added photos or embellies (although I had them in a bag along with the pages). They are now in progress in my studio. I have photos and all the memorabilia, but just vague memories (seriously it has only been 5 years...I forget the little details so quickly!). I'm still happy to document this trip, but it lacks some of the detail that I like to have regarding my travels. Great page Tiffany! I love the journaling and am a bit jealous of your beautiful European travels. One day! :)
