I thought you guys might like a little update on my scrapbook room renovation in process. Let's just say it has already been a big job, and it's not close to being finished yet.
Here are a few pictures I took yesterday evening when I got home from work about 6:00 pm. I did have the ceiling light on with these photos which gives a golden cast to parts of the room. I'm in love with the color I chose - Sherwin Williams paint in repose gray. And it covered like a dream - an entire room (roughly 10 X 12) in bright turquoise paint covered in two coats using 1 1/4 gallons of paint. I think that's pretty awesome, actually. I had worried that it might take 3-4 coats of paint and as many gallons. Plus, Sherwin Williams had a sale this past weekend which made the paint cost roughly the same as anything you'd buy at Lowe's or Home Depot. Besides that, I liked the service that I received at the smaller store; the worker even carried my paint out to my car for me. Winning! (Sherwin Williams doesn't know I exist and that I'm bragging on them, btw.)
Last night, I worked on painting the trim in the room for about two hours. I was able to paint the trim along one long wall, one short wall, and the doorway into the room. I also put one coat of paint on the window trim of one window. I plan to try to finish the trim painting on Saturday afternoon between giving the ACT that morning and going to Nashville to podcast that afternoon. I'll have at least a couple of hours to work, so it should be enough to finish the rest of the trim and the other window. I may still need to add a second coat to the windows, but I can do that on Sunday morning without interfering too much in my other plans to work on the room.
I snapped these photos this morning before work (about 7 am) and did not turn on the ceiling light. I thought you might like to see the effect that the light/shadows have on the paint color at various times of day.
I started moving some furniture back into the room so I could get a feel for where I might like to put various pieces.
Nope, I haven't addressed the closet yet. I'll have to do that as I begin moving my supplies back into the room. I even still have stuff hanging on the closet door outside. Oh well...
Yes, these windows will probably need two coats of trim paint on them. That's okay; they aren't too big at least. And I do love my replacement windows, so I want them to look nice. (It's shameful that I waited so long to do the trim on this set.)
It's pretty dark from this direction at this time of day, but I like how the room already feels calm. (And, no, I never managed to get my giant work table cleaned off and moved out of the room. We just moved it out of the way in order to paint. Haha! Hey, I moved EVERYTHING else.)
Here are the next items on my to do list for my scrapbook reno:
1. Finish trim painting (Saturday + Sunday if needed)
2. Scrub floor (Saturday)
3. Touch up paint any gray areas that need it (Sunday)
4. Replace heat/air register, wall switch plate and electrical switch plates throughout room (Sunday)
5. Decide on furniture placement (Sunday)
6. Have Jake + friends move giant armoire into room (Sunday)
7. Arrange rest of furniture to my satisfaction (Sunday)
8. Have tabletops cut at Home Depot and stain them to match armoire (Monday)
9. Stain table legs to match armoire and repaint tabletop (Monday)
10. Hang window coverings - not sure if I'll do curtains or blinds yet (Monday)
That doesn't seem like such a bad list until you consider that it still doesn't address actually putting any of my supplies in my room. Ay yi yi! I'm trying to survive this crazy process without going totally nuts...which wouldn't be a long trip for me anyway. ;)
