First adult camping trip

That's right. You read that title correctly. As you read this, I'll be on my first adult camping trip. I'm not sure I'm emotionally prepared for this experience, but I am ready to give it a try.

The fella and I (along with Kelsey and Jake) are attending the Big To Do on a farm here in Bowling Green this weekend. Best I can tell, it's BG's version of Woodstock or Bonnaroo or Lalapalooza - on a much smaller scale than those events, of course. I think the headline act is Government Cheese, but I honestly haven't looked at the list of acts. I'm just going by what the fella has reported to me. I figure he can tell me where to go and who we're listening to at various times. In fact, one of the things I'm looking forward to for this weekend.

I'm worried about some things too. Like, what will I do if I have to pee in the middle of the night? I guess I'll have to wake up the fella to go with me if I get scared. That might seem crazy to y'all since I spent six weeks in Paris by myself, but I wasn't surrounded by woods that could be hiding a serial killer wielding a machete. Likewise, bugs as big as saucers and mosquitoes with spines are generally not a problem in Paris like they could be here. In big cities, chances are the serial killer is the dude with the crazy eyes next to you on the subway and the biggest problem you'll encounter in nature is a random drunk dude peeing in the street. But I digress.... Let's just say the port-a-potty scenario frightens me on many levels. I'm also concerned about the dirty factor. I mean, I take at least one shower a day and often take two. We're looking at about 40 hours without a shower...this could get ugly. The fella jokingly suggested the other night that we'd be wearing the same clothes for 40 hours straight. I disabused him of this notion quickly. Between wet wipes, strategically used perfume, and clean clothes, I can only hope that I won't smell and look like Dirty Sally or Pigpen by the end of this weekend. The fella might change his mind about how he thinks I smell 'tiffalicious' - this is a risk I simply cannot take.  I'm also a little discombobulated about what we'll actually do the whole time. I mean, I often take a nap on Saturday, and I rarely wake up early. Will sleeping a little late be possible? The fella doesn't sleep nearly as much as I do. Will there be internet access/wifi? Will I have a phone signal? Will I have time to art journal? Will he still love me tomorrow? Am I truly insane? Yes, these are the questions currently burning in my pre-camping soul.

Stay tuned next week for photos and stories of my first adult camping trip. Here's to hoping we all survive the experience and even remain friends. Hahaha!

  4. OK, this was seriously funny -- and I can't wait to hear how it went. I'm not a camping fan either. I like nature, but I don't need to sleep in it. I like beds, pillows, and indoor plumbing. :)
