Week in the life - day 1 photography

As I mentioned in this week's podcast, my decision on whether or not to do A Week in the Life along with Ali Edwards really hinged on whether the album I wanted was available at my local Michael's or not. Guess what? I found it. I stopped in the store and bought a couple of these fabulous 8 X 8 albums  and a couple of the inserts that you can see below. Other than these items, I don't plan on buying anything else for my WITL project. Instead, I'll use the materials I have on hand.

My plan for the project is fairly simple. This week, I'll take pictures and fill out the documentation pages that Ali offered as a free download on her website. At the end of the week, I'll order my 4 X 4 prints either from Snapfish or Persnickety Prints. When they arrive, I'll work on the actual album and post if for you guys to see. This week, I'll be sharing my documentation pages and the photos I'll have to choose from when I finally finish the project. I think the hardest part this week will be remembering to take photos, getting photos I like, and blogging about it at the end of each day. Hopefully, it won't be too much of a problem to incorporate into my daily life.

This page is a place to write down stories and observations from the day while things are still fresh on my mind. As you can see, I didn't worry about grammar or complete sentences or even mistakes in writing. I just jotted down my notes Sunday evening before I went to bed.

This part of Ali's download is basically a place for you to record what you do each hour of the day. I don't think these sheets will be very interesting for me during the school day, but I will try to jot down some specifics about what we're doing instead of just have school take up 7 or 8 hours of the day. That would get repetitive and boring for sure.

Take a look at the photos I snapped over the course of the day. Of course, I won't be able to use all of them, but I thought I'd share them all with you in case you want to compare the finished version with the 'in progress' version at some later point.

Working in my studio space - def need to repaint and clean

I like this studio shot the best, but it's a little blurry

Slightly demented looking studio selfie

Overall, I'm happy with the amount and variation in the photos that I shot today. I'm already thinking about what kind of pics I might want to take tomorrow and am excited about having some other people take the pictures for a change of perspective. I def need to get better with my self-timer and the angles I shoot for this to be a collection of photos that I truly like.

I'll check back in with you tomorrow to show you what my Monday was like. Who else is planning on doing WITL? Will you do it this week or later? What choices have you made about size and album and that sort of thing? I can't wait to hear all about it. :)

  1. Hope you have fun with it! I've decided to do it pretty simply -- 4 x 4 pictures, a 4 x 4 album, and some 4 x 4 journaling cards. I've been wishing for one of those cute mint or gold 4 x 4 albums and this will give me an excuse to buy one. :-) We're going on vacation the end of next week and I don't want to get burned out on taking pictures, so I'm going to be pretty laid back about it.

  2. This is great!!! I love the last pic the best! I was planning on doing 4x4 squares but I got a great shot of Caroline that won't work as a square so I may be flexible and do a full page collage of pics and a page across with mainly writing. Love this post!

  3. it's fun to see how you decorated your house. i like the L gallery on the wall, your colored bowls, & yes your studio. i envy your dimples. they remind me of my best friend, who i miss right now. that red velvet cake is a caution, i will speed on past. but most of all, the lowder dog napping, on that ultra comfy looking chair, sounds like a fabulous idea to me.
