Spring in my yard

The tulip tree on the corner of my house rarely looks this great. Often, it's bitten back by a late spring freeze. This year, it's gorgeous. I love looking out the window of my studio space and seeing these flowers and buds.

Note to self: this is why you need to get the leaves out of your flower beds in the fall. My hostas seem to be in great shape. Lots of different sizes, colors, and leaf shapes are peeking through the leaves and twigs to show themselves. I transplanted a bunch of them last year, so I'm excited to see how big and lush they will be this year. I have lots of shade around my house, so hostas are my friend. Does anyone have any other flowering shade perennials you'd recommend?

Here's the view from my front yard looking down my street. I love the blooming trees!

This lovely tree separates me and my neighbor. I appreciate the shade in the summer and the vibrant colors in the spring.

Here's the front of the Lowder casa - pops of green abound, but it looks like I need to mow and trim this week. I also need some pansies for my window boxes. I predict a field trip to Lowe's or Home Depot in my future this week!

Peace out, peeps!

  1. Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing! It is great to see spring - especially as I am heading into autumn here in Australia. :)

    1. The opposite season thing always shocks me. I'm aware of it, but I rarely think about it. What is your coldest month and how cold does it get?

  2. I just finished listening to this weeks podcast, and wanted to say that I'm happy that you decided to blog the things you want to blog about! I enjoy following blogs that are frequently updated. I think if you are interested in writing about it then someone is going to be interested in reading it. Keep it up!

    1. Thanks Robin! I'm by nature a pleaser, but I think I have to stick with what makes sense to me and makes me happy in order to maintain a frequently updated blog. Maybe there'll be a few people who like the same mix of things that I do. :)

  3. The tulip trees here bloomed a couple weeks ago. Our neighbor has a huge one. I took my little girl over and took a bunch of photos of her under the tree. They really are beautiful trees.

    1. I agree, but it's so sad when they drop their petals after a cold snap. This spring has been really good for the tulip trees. Do you know what they're really called? I realized after blogging that maybe only southerners call them tulip trees.

  4. Gorgeous photos, Tiffany :) I love it when the trees on my street start blooming, though I hate how quickly they lose that pretty color!

    1. Thanks Lisa! I love the pretty blooming trees even if they do wreak havoc on my allergies. Gotta love springtime in the South!

  5. Goegeous property! I live where the houses are all stacked on top of each other.

    1. You're so sweet, Erica. I live in an older neighborhood in the city limits, so the lots are a bit bigger than most people buy today. I have about 3/4 of an acre. That doesn't seem like a lot until I start doing yardwork. Haha!

  6. Tiffany, your flowers are so pretty!! I am envious. Spring is just starting to hit here up north. My peony is just starting to sprout. Trees are just starting to bud and the grass is starting to turn green again. I can't wait for the leaves to appear and more flowers. This is my favorite time of year.

    1. I think things might be looking pretty good in the landscaping this year, Michelle, but I have LOTS of work to do. I knew I should've taken better care of the leaves last fall, lol. My peonies have big fat buds on them, but they usually don't bloom until the week before/after Mother's Day. How funny that I know that! Where are you up north? We had a really long, wet, cold winter here in KY, so I'm enjoying this spring even more than usual.
