A Night at the Symphony

We left BG rather early in the day because we didn't want to have to rush. After a lengthy drive around Franklin, TN (kind of a walk down memory lane for the fella) and a medium-length visit to JoAnn's so I could check out their stuff (only bought a couple of jewelry making items), we decided we'd better grab dinner somewhere. At first, the fella suggested The Spaghetti Factory. I was all for that because I love the Mizithra cheese (spelling?) and brown butter spaghetti. After driving around a bit though, he ultimately decided we should try a place he'd heard about recently - Soul Shine Pizza down by the Vanderbilt Campus.

The building was super cool - I loved the paper they'd put over these old warehouse style windows, and the glass bottle sculpture was truly a work of art. I wish I'd gotten a pic or two of us with the windows behind us on the staircase. Hmm, guess we'll have to go back for that.

Without hesitation, he posed for a couple of selfies, but the light shining in made it tough to get a clear shot. I like this one even though the lighting makes it a tad bit blurry; at least it makes me look a bit younger. Hahaha! (I didn't bring my dSLR with me because the forecast for thunderstorms made me reluctant to risk getting it wet. That means all the pics from this evening were taken with my iPhone 5c that I can't wait to upgrade!)

We each ordered a personal size pizza. Per my usual approach, I ordered their version of a supreme and enjoyed every bite. The fella got something a bit more exotic, but I was happy with my choice.

There's an old-fashioned style neon sign out front and colored lights strung, so I'm sure it looks even neater once it gets dark. We were early bird, old people diners though because we had tickets to the symphony. Haha!

The fella parked at the Music City Center, so we could walk over to the symphony. Along the way, we saw this super cool mosaic installation that ran the length of the center. I stopped and had him snap a few pictures. I had to channel my inner Kelley Purkey. :)

Of course, I stopped near the dog; that's just how I roll.

It wasn't raining yet, so we strolled down to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. I snapped these photos in the courtyard behind the building.

We entered through the side courtyard which features lovely flowers, statuary, and places for guests to sit while enjoying a cocktail. Then, we wandered inside to check out the building.

We had plenty of time to kill, so we entertained ourselves with a few snapshots while we people-watched.

After exploring the building a bit, we actually discovered that the conductor was giving a lecture on the top floor about the various pieces that would be performed that evening. Had I known about it in advance, I would've loved to sit through the entire lecture. As it was, we only listened to about 10 minutes of it.

The building is beautiful with marble floors, columns, and ballustrades. The lighting is gorgeous and reminds me of the Art Deco period. Here's a view of the main performance hall.

Since it was still early, we even snapped a few selfies that again seem to suffer from bad lighting. Oh well, maybe my upgraded phone will help with this. We even inspired another couple to take a selfie too; I think they'd been too embarrassed until they saw us do it.

While I'm still not a lover of classical music, I did appreciate our evening at the symphony. It's something that I'd be willing to repeat at some point, especially if I knew the music a bit better or had the opportunity to listen to the lecture beforehand. The little of the lecture that I did hear enhanced my enjoyment of some parts of the symphony quite a bit. I enjoyed being able to listen to the music and let my mind wander to various creative projects I have in mind. As such, I can see how classical music would be creatively stimulating.  If you ever have the chance to go, I highly recommend you give the experience a try.

If you're in the Nashville area, check out the Schemerhorn at their website -  https://www.nashvillesymphony.org/.

Bravo!
