Throwback Thursday - sharing an old layout "Do What You Love"

Today, I'm sharing an old layout from 2010 about my daughter's experience in cosmetology school.

I like that I used my handwriting for the journaling, but I wish I'd had something more profound to say. Certainly, if I were making the layout today, I'd have different things to say. I guess that's the gift of perspective, right?

I like that I incorporated embellishments from different lines, but the very cream paired with stark white kind of drives me nuts. I thought I was getting better about that, but it bothers me on this layout. Plus, I don't really like the printed acetate embellishments I chose. Did I really like them then or was I just trying to use up my stash? I honestly don't remember.

I'm so glad I figured out how to not have the date printed on my photos anymore - lol! I guess it could be good for working with old pics, but I hate that bright yellow strip on the photo now when I look at it. Also, the idea of the frame on the bottom photo was cute because it allows the eye to focus on Kelsey, but I don't really think it was big enough or the right color to do the job adequately.

And here's the final layout - sorry about the shadows as I was losing the light. I mean, the layout is okay, but it doesn't really say much. It's one of those where I just played with pretty stuff and didn't have much of a story to tell. I wouldn't redo it, but I'm also not sure I'd make a layout about the same thing in the same way if I did it today. Live and learn, I guess. :)

Peace out peeps! Have you looked back at an old layout and thought about how you'd approach it differently today? I'm kind of enjoying the process, to be honest.

  1. I love looking at old layouts and even though sometimes I think I was smoking crack while scrapping- because the pages are a hot mess- I accept them for what they are. Kinda like looking at pics of my teenage years and thinking "what in the hell was I wearing!?" LOL. At the time, it was my style now it's just a reminder of how I've changed and evolved. For the better I hope. 😀 The other side to that is that eventually the pages I'm making now will be outdated and not my style. Guess I can't win for losing so I better just keep scrapping!
