Thinking about my March to-do list

That's right. Spring is on the horizon. Here in Kentucky, we usually start having some nice, spring weather by the middle of March. That means that we're less than a month away from sunshine and greenery and maybe a bit of warmth.

I sure am ready to say goodbye to another very nasty winter. I heard on the news the other day that this is the second year in a row we've had more than 20 inches of snow where I live. That hasn't happened over two consecutive winters since I was a kid in the 1970s. Suffice it to say that I will certainly appreciate the spring weather when it finally does arrive.

Thinking about that arrival, I've made a spring to-do list that is a work in progress. Take a look at what I have come up with so far. I'm trying to keep it manageable at just five items; surely, I can accomplish one of these tasks each week in March, right?

March To-Do List

1. Pick up 10,000 sticks in yard from winter ice, snow, and storms. (If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll note this a recurring theme...)

2. Rake out leftover leaves from landscape beds. (Yeah, some of the leaves fell late out front, and I never worry about the leaves in the backyard. I just consider them a natural mulch - lol.)

3. Cut down all miniature trees currently growing in landscape beds. (Whew - maple trees are the worst for sending out little sprouts.)

4.  Get all limbs off of the roof. (I'm not sure how to do this since I don't own a ladder and don't plan to actually get on the roof myself. Maybe borrow a leaf blower? Or an extension for my broom? Or hope for a really windy day? Hmm...)

5. Have someone investigate bird family potentially living in my chimney. (Has anyone else had that happen? What is involved? I can hear them sometimes, and it's freaking me out. Who do you hire to do that, a chimney sweep? Are chimney sweeps even a thing? I can't get the whole Mary Poppins thing out of my head now...thanks.)

Of course, it looks like I have a few weeks before I actually have to DO any of this work. Here's a look at my front yard from last week - we're not quite ready for spring here in KY just yet. ;) Hahaha!

  1. Yes, chimney sweeps are a thing. We have ours cleaned often because we supplement our furnace with a wood stove. I would imagine that they often find wildlife in chimneys, but you could always call and ask whether that's a service they provide. You might have to pay for a chimney cleaning to get the birds investigated . . . :)

  2. I'm in Mid-MO. I think things have flipped. You're getting our winters. We have had two very mild winters. Epic flooding in Dec and Jan. Tulips popping up in Feb despite my verbal warnings to them this is not in their best interest (funny, they are a lot like my 20 year old!). I'd loan you my husband if we were closer. He was a tree guy in an earlier career. He thinks getting in the roof constitutes a fun filled Saturday. I would receive mend hiring someone to clean and check your chimney. They can install a screen to keep the birds out. Happy spring list making! I'm so happy color is just around the corner.

  3. We've had a remarkably light winter here in Mid-Michigan. We had temps in the upper 50s yesterday. Cooling down tonight and going to snow mid-week though. Our average snow amount is 51" and we have had 20" of snow so far

  4. I think I need to start doing something like this. I might enjoy it and it might just help me get a little more done. I love this post and I love how thoughtful you are when you put a list together. I live in a warm climate so we have garden work all year round but I love green.

  5. Yard full of sticks, eh? I am right there with you. Here in eastern Canada, it’s only started to feel like spring during the last week or so, and my backyard is full of fallen branches- including a downed poplar tree. I Think I’ll follow your lead and start my own spring to-do list. Item one: buy chainsaw!

  6. That is such a good idea that you write everything out. And I feel like having it up on the internet for everyone to read about probably encourages to really get everything done. I have been trying to just get a to do list written down in my calendar every single day. It is not as easy as it sounds.
