December Daily - sharing days 3 and 4

Here are days 3 and 4 in my 2015 December Daily album. My photos are a bit on the dark side, but I wanted to go ahead and share them with you. If my crazy life permits, I'll freshen these up with crisper, brighter photos in a day or two.

Anyway, when I look at these pages, a few things immediately jump out at me.

1) Neither of these pages has a photo on it. And that's perfectly okay. In fact, that's one of the reasons I'm loving the #30days of lists project that is guiding most of my DD. I didn't take any holiday-ish photos those days. In fact, I didn't really take any photos I liked those days because I was working and busy and just didn't. Because of this new list approach I'm taking, that didn't even matter.

2) Each of these pages is a single page spread. I'm totally okay with that. I said what I needed to say. I decorated it a bit. I enjoyed making the page. And now I'm finished. Who said that each day had to be 2 or 3 or 6 pages with over-the-top embellishing. Nobody, that's who.

3) While there isn't a photo, each of these pages has a holiday theme. Day 3 focuses on ways to spread holiday cheer while day 4's focus was my list variation of ways to survive cold weather. (That one was kind of ironic since it was 72 degrees here yesterday, seriously, but on December 4, it was actually pretty cold.)

4) My handwriting isn't perfect, but I love that it's an integral part of my album. First of all, there's no way I'd EVER attempt a DD if I had to print all of the journaling. Even with a brand new printer, that is just too much work for me. I'm all about streamlining the process whenever possible, so handwriting is the way to go for me from a purely lazy standpoint. Beyond that, I love my handwriting, even with its flaws, and I think that my daughter or her children might one day enjoy looking back at it. I know how much I enjoy looking back at my grandmother's and my mother's handwritten letters and cards and lists.

Supplies include - mostly October Afternoon in terms of paper and embellishments with some Basic Grey numbers thrown in, some Studio Calico enamel dots, some cutapart words from Pretty Little Studio, older PL cards (maybe WRMK?), a Target wood veneer, random baker's twine, and a Target kraft tag.

And here's a look at the layout in my actual album. As you can see, I am using page protectors in my album this year and kind of enjoying the divided ones in particular. If I start to not like it or to get bored, then I give myself permission to do some pages outside of protectors.

  1. What fun pages. They're colorful with details that catch the eye, like the twine poking out of the pocket, the multi-colored letter stickers, the big number 3. I think it's nice to have pages without photos once in a while because I think it compels us to add details that we likely would never have photos for -- like being patient in line or letting a car go ahead of you. I try to always put money in the Salvation Army kettle when there is one in front of a store. It's often just change, since I don't carry much cash, but it's one of my Christmas season traditions.

  2. Loving the list concept. It seems like that would allow you to add stories that happen and take off the pressure for days that don't. I'm sure the OA product is so happy to be out of the package and in use. It's siblings are jealous!

  3. Lovely! I like how you communicated your message on both pages in less words that most people,(me,specifically) would write...and there was no complaining about the cold, just ways to conquer it. I sure am enjoying all the various approaches to DD. Merry Christmas!
