10 Fun Date Night Ideas

1.  High school ballgame - I'm a football fan; he likes basketball better. Either way, it's a low-cost entertainment option that has the added perk of making me look good to the assistant principals who see me attending these 'extra' events. You could also attend choir concerts, band competitions, and speech tournaments for fun if that's more your thing.

2.  Dinner + Dollar shopping - We like to grab a casual dinner and then head over to Mighty Dollar or the Half Price Bookstore Outlet for a bit of entertainment. I don't really like going to the movies, so this gives us another option rather than going straight home after we eat. I can spend less than $10 and enjoy meandering around either of those stores. Thankfully, the fella doesn't seem to mind.

3.  College ballgame - Since we have a local university, this is an easy option for us. While it isn't always inexpensive, I think the sport you choose to attend has a lot to do with pricing. A football ticket costs upwards of $35 each, but volleyball season tickets are significantly cheaper, and they often offer incentive admission instead of a fee. (Ex - bring a canned good to donate instead of paying for a ticket.) Volleyball games are our main choice bc the fella likes women's volleyball (wink, wink) and the tickets are much less expensive than football or basketball. Besides that, the atmosphere is more intimate, so it seems more important to be there cheering them on to victory. I also personally like that we're supporting a team that might not get enough recognition as it deserves.

4.  Attend a local performance - we actually do this several times a year. Our fave cultural outing is live theater at small, local venues. We've seen a wide variety of plays and enjoyed them all. Honestly, I didn't used to enjoy live theater; it's something I began to enjoy in the last decade or so. If you don't think you'd like it, try it again; you might be pleasantly surprised.

5.  Check out a flea market or festival - we haven't done this yet, but it's on my list. Fella, are you listening? ;)

6.  Play trivia at a local restaurant - we haven't done this either. We've talked about it, but it has either conflicted with our schedule or we've argued that we really need a team of people to be competitive. You know how hard it is to get a group of adults to commit yo anything. There's always an emergency or an illness or a conflict or something. One of these days, we'll bite the bullet and just go play by ourselves.

7.  Attend a lecture/presentation - we've done this a few times locally at WKU, and the program has always been good. While I'm not in a hurry to repeat our day long seminar on WW1, I'll gladly attend any lectures by newscasters or authors like we've already enjoyed. Not only do I feel super smart and informed by attending, but it also gives us a wider variety of topics to discuss.

8.  Listen to live music in your town - whether it's a local festival like pictured here or concerts in the park or a local band at a little, dive bar, I don't think there's much better than live music. We haven't been dancing yet, but I'll convince the fella to twirl me around the dance floor one of these days.

9.  Take an artsy class together - so far, we've taken two painting classes together, and I enjoyed every moment. The fella is a little bit competitive, do I'm not sure he enjoys them as much as I do. I'm a little more comfortable with artsy or crafty projects than he is. I'd love to take some more classes with him!

10.  Movie marathon - I'm not a fan of movies, really. I'd prefer watching a season of TV on Netflix. But there I something pretty cool about watching a series of movies together as a couple. I survived the 15 different Star Wars Movies as well as the 18 Harry Potter ones. Next, I'm thinking of making him watch the Ztwilight series. Hahaha! (Imagine an evil laugh there.) Next up, we may try the series of Indiana Jones movies or the Lord of the Rings series.

What about you? Are there any awesome date night ideas I missed? Feel free to share!

  1. Great List! Might I add local brewerys, winerys and distillerys? We always have a good time there. And also finding a local park- they usually have short (key word) hiking trails that get you out of a rut. And lastly- every town seems to have a fall festival, a holiday parade etc. These are things we gloss over usually but can be alot of fun to people watch and grab a bite.

  3. great ideas! Personally, I avoid the Lord of the Rings movies like the plague, but I couldn't even get through reading The Hobbit. Did you like the books? I fell asleep during the first movie and I thought I would die before the third one ended. Seriously, the third movie seem like it was ending ten times before it finally did!
