Today begins year 22 for me and year 30 for my bestie, Vonda. Most of the time, it's hard for me to believe I've been teaching this long - more than half my life at this point. We took this selfie on our district opening day this past Monday. Our actual first day of school with students is today.
For those of you who have asked about our calendar here in KY, we operate on a modified year round calendar with a week and a half break in October, a two week Christmas break, a March mini break, and a week long spring break in April. We usually finish the third week of Zmay unless we have a hard winter with several snow days. That means we have a nine week summer break too. Since August and September are so hot and miserable, it's not a bad arrangement.
Intterestingly enough, our new superintendent (and our former high school principal) told a story about this photo and told all 600 of our district's employees that he had labelled me the selfie queen. Of course they all laughed. If there's one thing Gary does well, it's give me a hard way to go. I don't mind a bit because it's all in good fun. Besides, I wear my selfie queen title proudly!
We look pretty good for a couple of "old girls"! Oh wait, you're still just a "pup"!ReplyDelete
Ahhh...a week and a half break in Oct. We don't do that here in FL so that explains the early start.ReplyDelete
Best wishes for a great year. School was not and is not easy for my now college sophomore. I'm so appreciative of all the wonderful teachers he had through his pre-college years.ReplyDelete
