Sharing a project - Heidi Swapp Memory File Mini-Album

This morning, I spent a couple of hours in my studio and made a mini-album using one of the Heidi Swapp memory file kits that I picked up last week at Hobby Lobby. I'm pretty happy with the way it came together and hope you enjoy taking a look. How awesome that I was able to complete a project start to finish in right at two hours! Go me!

The mini-book is about the stage makeup class my daughter took last semester in college. She's a dance and Arabic major (no, I'm not making that up), and one of the required classes for the dance portion was stage makeup. She'd send me pics of various assignments she worked on for the class; all of these photos were taken with an iPhone and texted to me. I didn't even have the originals from which to print. Given that, I think the quality of photo was actually really good. Since I had 9 or 10 photos total, I thought it'd be fun to make a mini-book out of them. The journaling is from my perspective since I wasn't with her in the class or when I made the project, but I think that's just fine. Hopefully, she'll still enjoy taking a look at it. :)

As you open the book, I put a little embellishment section at the top left to help draw your eye all the way across the pages. The right hand side includes a pic of people in her class with their makeup on for a project, a small journaling spot, and some embellishments. I repeated that combo of materials on several of the pages, but there are a few pages where I just included a photo + embellishments. Sometimes I had lots to say, and other times my embellishments and pic really did the talking for me. Both scenarios are fun and effective in my opinion. The combo of happy colors (yellow, pink, and turquoise with spots of brown/grey) was lots of fun to work with; I didn't stress out too much if some embellishments were brighter/darker than others, and I also didn't worry too much about cream vs. white tones.

Open up the folder, and you see a layout on the left about Kelsey in her Van Gogh makeup where she had to try to imitate a piece of fine art. In the middle of that larger folder, I also have another tiny folder that I inserted there that focuses on Kelsey's zombie makeup assignment.

When you open the smaller folder, I like how the photos all line up next to each other.

The majority of the products I used were part of the Heidi Swapp Memory File combo that I purchased. I also added some October Afternoon pink crocheted ribbon, some light turquoise/white baker's twine from Michael's, a PL style card from Simple Stories, mini letter stickers from Jillibean Soup, and random stickers/embellishments/labels from Dear Lizzie, Heidi Swapp, Simple Stories, Amy Tangerine, MAMBI, Studio Calico, and others. Except for the Memory File set, I didn't buy anything new for this project. I feel pretty good about using up some of my embellishment stash!

Since the roads are still really bad here because of our snowstorm, I'll likely continue working on crafty projects today and tomorrow. (No school again for me tomorrow!) Look for some more crafty shares in the coming days.
