Guest designer at Jenni Bowlin Studio - Project #5 a Mini-album

As part of my series of projects as one half of the May guest designer for Jenni Bowlin studios, I decided to make a mini-album. No pressure, right?  I just wanted to challenge myself and the 'Choose Happy' paper seemed to scream mini-album cover to me. So I didn't have to cut off any part of the words, I went with a 6 X 8 size and made my own cover out of chipboard that I then covered with patterned paper. The front still felt a little bare when I was finished with the album, so I went back and added my OLW for 2013, Yes in the thickers from the kit as well as a square embellishment, some rubon stars, and a thought bubble. I like how that cluster of embellishments hints at what is inside the album.

The first page of the album is really an explanation of what 2013 was about and why I chose Yes as my OLW. Click the pic to make it larger and read the journaling if you'd like. I balanced the doily and sequins on the top left with a cluster of flowers, sequins, and a wood veneer piece on the bottom right. I think that helps move the eye in a way similar to the way we read. I also included a few sequins and flowers on the inside cover just because it was fun.

The album is filled with things, events, places, and people that made my 2013 great. Some things are big, while others are quite simple and ordinary. I tried to add a little something sparkly to each page to carry that theme throughout the mini. Here's a glimpse at the first few pages of the album with my book open.

I was so glad I'd kept all the pieces of paper from the kits so I could mix and match them throughout my album.

Yep, I love taking selfies. I admit it. Maybe I need a selfie help group. hahaha!

To 'protect' the squeamish, I covered my photo of getting Botox with some vellum. It also is a subtle nod to the 'secrecy' of having work done. Lol!

I used a mix of page sizes to add some additional visual interest. I trimmed the edges into different shapes using random chipboard shapes I already had lying around my studio.

On several pages, I made a title using the vellum stickers from the kit. When I ran out of patterned paper from the kit or I didn't have any left that matched my pics, I just filled in with white cardstock.

I hope you liked the first part of my mini-album - visit again tomorrow to see the rest of it!

    1. Thanks Carlie - sometimes it's hard for me to use vellum, so I'm always trying to think up ways that it works without feeling weird. I'm glad you liked it!
