Sharing a layout - Dear Baby

There are few things in my life as cherished as Dear Baby. She remains the quintessential symbol of my childhood and still holds a place of honor in my home - snuggled up in a cradle in my guest room. I don't sleep with her or anything. That might be a little weird.

Anyway, I knew I had to tell the story of Dear Baby in my scrapbooks. I'd never done a layout about her before and wasn't sure I had any pics of her from when I was little, but the story had to be told. The first step was to look for old photos that might feature Dear Baby. After that, I took a few pics of her as she is now.
I never did find the old photo that I thought I had, so I had to use a newer one. Tracie printed it out in 5 X 7 for me, and I took it with me to the crop I attended.

Next, I selected my papers. I used October Afternoon because the vintage feel was perfect for this topic. I used a couple of different patterns and made sure to include a large block of journaling space as I began to lay it all out.

Now that's a lot of journaling!

I grounded my title with the B side print from one of my OA papers and used Jillibean Soup letter stickers for my title. I allowed the letters to drop onto the photo because there was plenty of white space in the photo and because it helped ground/link the title to the photo. The label on the right serves as an embellishment and a subtitle for the page.

On the left hand side of the page, I used a similar label that I dated, a strip of washi tape, and two diecut butterflies that I popped up a bit from the page.

Here's a better shot of my journaling in case you'd like to read it.

On the bottom right hand side of the photo, I created another embellishment cluster in order to create a visual triangle and balance the layout. A simple piece of washi tape, a quote strip, a rectangle word embellishment, and a popped up heart complete this cluster. I think popping up elements on either side of the page created a sense of flow from one corner to the next.

And here's the finished layout:

I'm so glad I told this story because Dear Baby was a significant part of my childhood story that needed to be recorded.

  1. Great page!! I love layouts with lots of journaling like this! My daughter had a special baby doll when she was small, and I don't think I've ever told story. Thanks for the inspiration!!

    1. My daughter had a special doll too! She called it "Baby Hatcher" - her last name. I think I want to try to tell that story soon. Wouldn't it be fun to put the layouts side by side in an album?
