Scrap lift challenge part deux

Here's the original

I really like the combo of patterned paper and a single focal point photo. Tracie chose this layout by Celeste Smith that she had pinned to her So Crafty board on Pinterest.

Here's my scrap lift. I changed the photo placement so that it better suited my papers and pic. Sometimes, simply flipping items from an original can change the entire feel of the layout. Handwriting the journaling goes with my style and with the mood of this layout in my opinion.

You'll notice that I kept the grid pattern of mixed papers but totally changed the color scheme. While I kept a lightly patterned piece of paper as my large background, my choice has a completely different feel than the lined paper in the original. That background paper I used is ancient, btw. I also modified the layered papers right behind the photo.

A close up pic of some embellishment and layering choices... Here's a tip: I used a 6 x 6 paper pad for my grid papers. It was a lil less painful than cutting up full size sheets. Plus, I think I could translate this layout to a card and use the leftover bits I've already cut. For my embellishments, I just opened a few packages of chipboard and diecut pieces that I thought were similar in color/feel and played with them.

Notice that I didn't use the button embellishment like the original, but I did incorporate some circles and half circles.

Tracie asked me what I was using as my title, and I guess it'd be the honeybee embellishment. I don't get super hung up about titles and have a tendency to just wing it. Have I told you lately how much I love my tiny attacher? If you don't have one, run to HL or M's and grab one. It's fabulous!

Here are the layouts side by side.

Hope you liked our scrap lift challenge and that you're inspired to go and be crafty!

  1. What a beautiful layout! I enjoyed reading about your "picture tree". LOL. I'm feeling a little pink today but you and Tracie inspired me to work on my Project Life this past week and I got three spreads done, two with inserts. I look forward to your podcasts every week now. Thanks so much!

Doesn't it feel great to sit down and make something pretty and meaningful? It feeds my soul. In fact, I think there are some PL layouts in my future today too. :)

  2. Tiffany - this is just gorgeous! I love that ours came out so similar in color scheme when neither of us planned it. I'm LOVING scraplifting!!! Can't wait to discuss that when we tape next weekend!

    1. I totally agree! Must discuss our success with the experiment/challenge. I just left a comment on your blog about us 'matching' on this scrap lift. Just goes to show that we're alike in more ways than not. :)
