Knit or Crochet? Your advice is needed!

I'm thinking of taking a class soon and am interested in either knitting or crochet. Which would you recommend and why? Which do you think would be simplest for me to learn? I need some guidance, peeps.

Thanks in advance!  Tiff

** Btw, I'm still working on my Lowder-dog mini album. Maybe I'll be ready to share it this weekend... Sorry for the delay; that pesky thing called my job keeps getting in the way of my fun.

  2. I knit and don't crochet so of course I vote for knitting. I also couldn't choose between the two but chose knitting in the end because it seemed like you could knit more stuff with knitting. Check out You Tube if you ever need help with learning any stitches.

  3. I do basics in both - I flip between making crochet afghans and knit ones. I seem to have a running knit project of a prayer shawl going at all times. In fact, I just found one in a bag upstairs in my craft room that I forgot I was working up

  4. (a) I suck at both, but I recommend knitting - it makes for more comfortable clothes. But you really shouldn't take my advice, since I've only ever made long trapezoids that were supposed to be scarves in either craft.

    (b) I'm looking forward to seeing more of the album. One of my dogs passed away this week, and I feel so heartbroken and want to work on my fur friends album. :'(

  5. I do both, but I would definitely recommend crochet. It's like doodling with yarn, and much quicker and easier to learn and play with different patterns. Also, easier to correct mistakes :-). It's also easier on the arms I find, as you don't carry the weight of the piece all the time. Enjoy!

  6. I enjoy both for different reasons. I would say if all you are going to make is afghans crochet is the way to go. However if you are thinking after taking knitting classes you'll want to go on making all kinds of fun projects i.e, hats cowl, socks, sweaters.... knitting items usually look better. Knitting has been called the new yoga. Have you been on Ravelry.com ? it's a fantastic place for everything fiber related also you can keep track of all your projects.

  7. I do both but I self taught myself so I only can do basic things. I like crochet more since it seems faster and only have to deal with a hook instead of two needles.

  8. I've done both and prefer crochet, especially when looking for satisfaction (maybe not instant but faster than you would with knitting). So, its faster and my opinion easier, if you drop a stitch no big deal, it is a bigger deal with knitting.

  9. I do crochet only because I could teach myself via YouTube. However, in looking for patterns, I am always drawn to knitted patterns. It looks like it would be a more difficult thing to learn, but that is what I would pick for your class.

  10. I'm a knitter. So I vote knitting. My aunt has done both for as long as I can remember. She says crouchet is easier but she only uses it for afghans. All the baby layette sets and scarves are knitted.

  11. Crocheting for sure! But its not expensive to get started in either so if you want to try one and find you don't like it, you can always switch. Start with a small project so you don't get overwhelmed. Both are relaxing, but crochet is so much more forgiving. I had to learn how to knit to pass the third grade believe it or not! One room school in rural Wisconsin, 8 grades, 16 students and one teacher for all. But I can knit!

  13. crochet to me is more whimsical. easier to make smaller projects if you're more into instant gratification. easier to do mindless projects if you want something to keep your hands busy while your watching tv or something of that nature.

knit is more timeless/classic/elegant. you can make beautiful things to wear, but they seem way time intensive to me. also, i think you have to pay more attention to your stitch count, so not as easy to do it and be mindless.
