Travel Thursdays - Plans w/ Tonia in Paris

My friend, Tonia, has finalized her plans to spend a week with me in Paris this summer. We've never traveled together before, but I'm crazy excited that she's joining me in this adventure. She's spending a week with me about halfway through my trip. (Stay tuned during that time period for some pics of me that won't be selfies! Lol!) Anyway, I think I'll be ready for some company by then and am looking forward to a bunch of special things we have planned. Here are some of our plans for that week:

Saturday - I'm meeting Tonia at the airport when she lands, and we're taking the metro back to my apartment. Since I'll be there to help her, she feels pretty confident about this arrangement. It's much cheaper than taking a taxi from CDG to our digs. It'll also be good practice for me since I plan to leave Paris this way instead of spending the extra funds on cab fare.  The rest of that day, we'll likely just wander around and explore; we don't have anything specifically planned in case she's super jetlagged or something.

Sunday - I want to take Tonia to some of the street markets today and just explore in a relaxed way.

Monday -  Open for now - we'll see what we plan on doing later.

Tuesday -  Boy, do we have big plans today. Tonia reserved spots for us on a Wine-tasting Chateau Tour which includes places I've never visited before - Chateau de Chambord, Chateau de Chenonceau, and the Nitray vineyards and chateau.  It looks to be a long day - around 13 hours or so - but it looks absolutely amazing. I'm almost giddy with the excitement of this activity plan! Take a look at some of the photos I found online of the chateaus we'll be visiting.

Wednesday - Open for now - we'll see what we plan on doing later.

Thursday - Just after lunch today, we have reservations for a small group Eiffel Tower tour where we can skip the line and head to the top without waiting for hours like everyone else - hopefully at least. I've been to the top twice, once in 1987 and again in 2008, but it's something I wanted to get to experience with Tonia. We plan to have a champagne toast at the top as long as she isn't hyperventilating from the height. (Neither of us are great with heights, ironically.) Tonight might also be a good night to take a picnic dinner down to the banks of the Seine and watch the world go by - with some good French wine, of course.

Friday -  While our day is free at this point, After we go on the Hemingway literary walk through Paris that afternoon, we have plans that evening to eat at a very swanky restaurant. I already have made reservations for Le Grand Colbert. If you go to the website, you can see their menus and prices. Also, check out these photos of that restaurant that I found online. I have definitely never eaten any place this swanky in Paris, so I'm crazy excited to try it.

Saturday -  Tonia leaves today, so I'll help her take the metro and RER back to CDG for her flight. Hopefully, it'll go smoothly and will provide me with extra practice for when I have to do it alone with all of my luggage.

Those are our plans so far. We've discussed going to the Musee d'Orsay and maybe out to Giverny, but we'll see how that goes. Tonia wants to plan all sorts of time just to relax and people watch at cafes, so we'll need to leave plenty of time for that. My grand adventure is 24 days away and counting, people...

  2. Everything looks beautiful! Living vicariously . . . I don't even own a passport. I told my husband that if our daughter (currently 11) ever does a semester abroad we'll have to get passports for all three of us, in case she needs us. :)

  4. My favorite thing is just walking through the parks and down the Champs Elysees from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe. Then sit outside one of the cafes near the monument, have a glass of wine and watch the people!!
