December Daily Pages Progress Day 1 - 2

Do you ever have a week that you just aren't sure you'll survive? Well, last week was one of those for me. Here's a quick rundown, just so you'll know what I mean by a crazy week.
Monday was school + an eye doctor's appointment + grocery + errands for K because she was sick + putting more lights on the Christmas tree.
Tuesday was school + after school tutoring + adult night class + online class.
Wednesday meant school + a 2 1/2 hour department meeting + dinner with the fella.
Thursday was school + after school tutoring + online class + dinner plans with former kiddos who didn't leave until almost midnight!!.
Friday was school + errands + dinner and concert with the fella.
Saturday was a fun day with the fella with lunch and a visit to the country music hall of fame in Nashville followed by a Predators hockey game.
On Sunday, I cleaned and crafted and then spent the evening with the fella. Oh, and on top of all that, I had bus duty all week which meant I had to be at work 1/2 hour early each day. Aaackkk! It was crazy, but I survived it. Doesn't that description just make you want to go take a nap? Even when I look back at it, I'm surprised I survived as well as I did.

Basically, I told ya all that so you'd know why I hadn't started my DD last week. There just was no room for creativity or crafting. And that's okay.

After that ridiculously busy week, I finally took some time yesterday to sit down and work on my DD. I didn't have a lot of time to devote to it, but I thought I needed to start somewhere.

I did not start with the cover, lol. (I know that'll freak out some of you.) I have a couple of great ideas for the cover and even started by printing some things I'll need for it, but I just didn't have the time or patience to deal with the cover yesterday. That may have to wait until I'm off work for the holidays.

I also didn't start with the title page. Again, I have some specific ideas of what I want to do there, and an hour and a half late Sunday afternoon wasn't conducive to creating that page. I'll get there eventually, just not yet.

Instead, I jumped right in on DD 2014 and started with days 1 & 2. Actually, I began by printing the pics I wanted to use from this first week - all 7 of them and some cool freebies I found. (Check out my DD and my Printables boards on Pinterest for things you might like to print for your DD.) That took much longer than you might think since I had to play around with the printing some first. I prob messed with printing stuff for an hour or more.

There were a couple of pics that I'd originally planned to use that were just too fuzzy. I still might use them eventually, but in a 2 x 2 or 3 x 2 size. Their resolution just wasn't good enough to use at 4 x 6. All of these pics were taken with my iPhone 5c and printed on my Canon i960 at home. They are filter free and have only been edited using the auto-enhance tool in Picasa.

Ironically enough, neither pic from day 1 or day 2 was especially holidayish in nature. That's totally ok. My real life is worthy of DD, and so is yours.

The first page uses OA paper as the background and an old red chevron paper bag that I squirreled away in my DD basket at least a year ago. The gold washi tape and red number and red tag are from the OA kit, but the sticker strips, oval journal spot, and memories tag are from an old OA Christmas line. I'm not sure who made the green enamel dot.

Here are some close ups -

My AC pen skipped a bit on the tag which annoys me, but I can live with it.

And yeah, that's a selfie I took in my classroom last Monday because I'm just cool like that. ;)

The colors are a little washed out in this pic but not in real life. I'll try to retake these in daylight to see if that helps. For now, you can at least see the design of the page.

And here's the journaling on a pull-out card.

There you have it - DD 2014 days 1 and 2. Stay tuned and check back in later in the week for more pages. I promise I'll keep working. How are your DDs going?

  1. Your DD is looking really fun so far. Day 1 looks Christmassy enough due to your pretty red scarf. It's cool that you have students who are also friends. :)

I have pictures printed for Days 1-5 and patterned papers in the page protectors (6x6), but opted to address Christmas cards yesterday instead of work on DD. Hoping to do some of that tonight.
